ARTIST STATEMENT:

Thank you for visiting my work. I have been photographing in the American Northeast for many years. Where country meets coast, time seems to decelerate, bringing richer attention to each moment. While in that space, I am often reminded that nature is the unbounded poetry of the world, and embodies the essence of freedom. In the play of light, natural and man-made elements speak in related tones, like dialects springing from a common language. I want to articulate what is soft, silent, or brilliantly alive like the crashing surf. In these images I hope you will share the sense of peace I have felt while exploring the contours of mood, form and color in these beloved rustic locations.

BIO:

I am an artist focused on beautiful imagery and creative approaches to positive global change. Beginning in 2005 my photography was featured through the Veer Collection at the Corbis Images website (now Getty.) I create my landscape images as an independent project for wall art, and for my love of connecting with nature.

PROCESS:

I am fascinated by phenomena in the natural world made available to our senses. Light and shade conspire together within the forms of nature to express radiance and mystery in degrees, from fleeting to perpetual, and from subtle to startling.  I strive to make myself available to that boundless range, in a kind of “bare” attention, as the Buddhists tradition might describe.  My shooting process is a paradox of surrender and control, as I prepare to capture with the lens, what comes.  In post processing, I enhance the raw image in fidelity to the internal resonance that provoked the release of the camera’s shutter. This becomes for me a “second lens,” where the spirit of the image becomes matter for expression. Some of my latest images are further exploring that second lens to animate something a bit otherworldly.
